101 Alice Street Newtown - a typical dark and cramped 20th century Victorian terrace house in desperate need of a renovation for its new 21st century family. The brief required an adventurous architectural solution to provide a greater consideration to site, spaces suitable for a family of four who have a love for entertaining and a true connection with the outdoors.
The design revitalises the terrace housing typology through a reinterpretation, bringing it into a contemporary context for contemporary living. Through an articulated ground and roof plane, sustainable design, landscaping, operable and integrated joinery and a crafted material palette what is established is a beautiful, connected and flexible city home.
From concept design to the execution of a complete and detailed DA submission, this project provided a real insight into the architectural design process and how ideas are translated into reality under the rules and regulations of council and state government.
